Artist Biography

Ming Ren

Born in 1956 in Hangzhou, China and trained at the prestigious China Academy of Art, Ming Ren has been experimenting with and exploring abstract expressionism in his unique ink painting for the past three decades.

Ren’s paintings have been extensively exhibited internationally at museums and galleries. They have been exhibited and collected by the Tokyo National Museum, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Arkland Art Museum,  The Jordan Schnitzer Museum, the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum in Beijing, the China Academy of Art Museum, Shandong Art Museum in China and etc. Ren received the Gold Excellence Award at the Florence Biennial International Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Italy in 2003.

Ren has been an educator in the US and China since 1984, when he was invited to be a guest professor at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) from 1988 to 2008. In addition, Ren has taught at the San Francisco Art Institute, the City College of San Francisco, the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the China Academy of Art in China for the past forty more years.
