Memor Museum is pleased to present Stonecube: The Initial Language of No-Time Consciousness, a major exhibition devoted to artist Stone Chun Shi’s more than four-decade exploration of visual language, consciousness, and time.

Rather than functioning as a retrospective, the exhibition examines how an artistic language comes into being when language itself—rather than style, recognition, or production—is treated as the central object of inquiry. Over the course of forty years, Stone Chun Shi has worked across painting, calligraphy, music, moving image, design, and technology, gradually forming Stonecube as an initial visual language shaped within what he describes as no-time consciousness.


Installed across all five floors of the Memor Museum’s historic townhouse, the exhibition brings together works from the 1980s to the present alongside archival documents, handwritten notes, early sketches, video materials, design experiments, and cross-media projects. These materials are presented not as supporting context, but as evidence of formation. Organized as an “awareness trajectory,” the exhibition traces Stonecube's emergence through cycles of construction and negation, stability and collapse.


Central to the exhibition is the integration of painting and Flow Music, an improvised musical practice developed by the artist. Together, visual rhythm and sound operate as a unified system through which perception, duration, and consciousness are continuously recalibrated. In this framework, time is no longer experienced as linear progression, but as something folded, suspended, and traversed.


Stonecube: The Initial Language of No-Time Consciousness presents an artist’s sustained commitment to language formation as a lifelong discipline. The exhibition invites viewers to consider not only what an artistic language looks like once it exists, but how it comes into being—through duration, withdrawal, and repeated return.


About the Artist

Stone Chun Shi is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, music, calligraphy, moving image, and design. Over more than four decades, his work has focused on the formation of Stonecube, an original visual language developed through sustained artistic inquiry and cross-media experimentation.
