Join us for an intimate evening marking the evolution of STONECUBE from its origins in New York to its expanding global trajectory.
This gathering centers on a live conversation between artist Stone Chun Shi and retired MoMA curator Anne Morra — an exchange that moves beyond traditional artist-curator roles to explore the lived experience behind a visual language.
The dialogue will trace the genesis of STONECUBE in the charged atmosphere of 1980s New York, and its gradual transformation into what Shi describes as “No-Time Consciousness.”
Through reflection, inquiry, and personal narrative, the evening will examine how repetition, rhythm, and structure emerged not merely as formal strategies, but as a response to acceleration — and as a search for equilibrium.
Creator of the STONECUBE visual language, Stone Chun Shi is a cross-cultural artist whose practice is rooted in what he defines as “No-Time Consciousness.” His work shifts painting away from representation and toward the construction of perceptual structure.
Anne Morra is a curator and scholar of moving image art. For four decades, she served in the Department of Film at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, where she developed programs engaging experimental cinema and interdisciplinary artistic inquiry. She brings a rigorous yet human perspective to the structural evolution of visual language.
