Xu Baiyi 徐白一

Chinese painter and scholar, born in 1958 in Changchun, Jilin. Agraduate of Northeast Normal University, he serves as the Director of theInstitute of Classical Chinese Painting at Jilin University. Since 1989, he hastraveled and exhibited in Japan, Korea, and the U.S., spending several years inNew York. Xu advocates a “return to the classical,” defining the six aestheticelements of Northeastern spirit—vastness, flatness, breadth, distance,desolation, and coldness. Integrating Song-dynasty principles with Westerncomposition, he pioneered the Northeastern Plains Painting Style, known for itsgrandeur and luminous serenity.

中国画家、学者,1958年生于吉林长春,毕业于东北师范大学美术学院,现任吉林大学中国古典绘画研究所所长。自1989年起游历日本、韩国及美国,曾旅居纽约专注创作与研究。徐白一主张“回归古典”,提出东北绘画精神的“六大要素”——大、平、广、远、荒、寒,并以宋人理法融合西方构图,开创“东北平原绘画风格”,以宏阔气象和清澈意境再现北方山水之魂。
