The original sculpture is located in the Shimenshan Grottoes, Dazu, and was carved during the Southern Song Dynasty, between the eighth and eleventh years of the Shaoxing era (1138–1141 CE). The Guanyin figure features a luminous countenance, elaborate ornaments, and holds a lotus blossom in her hand. Standing barefoot upon a lotus pedestal, she embodies grace and dignity in every gesture. This figure belongs to the "Ten Sacred Guanyins"—a group of ten bodhisattvas each holding distinct ritual implements such as a jeweled basket, a sacred pearl, or a sutra—which represent an important iconographic theme in the Dazu Rock Carvings of the Song Dynasty.
