In the Landscape · Pure Sound series, Nie Yan reinterprets the traditional Chinese shanshui (landscape) through the language of contemporary oil painting. Each canvas echoes the rhythm of classical brushwork yet dissolves its rigidity through modern color and texture. By juxtaposing calligraphic fragments, pixel-like grids, and serene landscapes, the artist creates a dialogue between ancient silence and digital noise — an inquiry into how “purity” can survive within the visual complexity of the modern world.
