In Gold Buddha, Stone Chun Shi transforms the sacred icon into a field of pure energy. Through his signature Stonecube technique — painting in micro-cubes derived from Chinese calligraphy strokes —The artist redefines the relationship between image, light, and consciousness. The Buddha’s face, built from hundreds of luminous cubes, appears both pixelated and transcendent. It glows from within, as if awareness itself were radiating through matter. Rather than depicting divinity, the work embodies it — converting spiritual stillness into chromatic vibration. For Shi, the Stonecube is not a stylistic choice but an ontological statement: each cube is a “unit of energy,” a visible manifestation of flow between thought and being. In this way, the Gold Buddha becomes less a portrait than a meditation—a visual mantra of compassion, order, and awakening.
