“Departure” is a work extremely rich in tension, as it explores the visualization of Eastern philosophy. The surface of the work is covered with strong collisions of red marks that go off in their own directions and interweave in layers. A dynamic visual structure is created, as if the interior of the painting is undergoing simultaneous tearing, conflict and fusion. The overall image appears split up but is actually reaching an internal cohesion—this kind of “combined force within dislocation” encompasses the investigative line of thinking the artist takes on in contemplating the relationship between “departure” and “unity.”
