“Chasm”,  one of a series of paintings I call Muted Landscapes, shows a view of our  earth, that is at once expansive and frightening --a landscape as if  seen frommiles high, muted by both the gray color and by the great  distance. High peaksandrivers, lakes, caldera, and fields,  are mergedand blended, losing their individual features and value. But  “muted” has meaning beyond toned down. The earth, injured and disappearing  before us under the advance of population and industry, is unable to call  out.  Our earth, the mother of us all  is unheard until too late.  So too, the  mothers and women of this world, their bodies and their rights continually  under attack, are too often unheard and unseen.
