The original sculptures are located in the Small Buddha Bay Grottoes at Baoding Mountain, Dazu, and were carved during the Southern Song Dynasty, between the Chunxi and Chunyou eras (1174 – 1252 CE). Enshrined within circular niches, these Buddha figures exhibit a remarkable sense of worldly warmth. Some sit in casual, relaxed postures, exuding an air of leisurely ease; others hold musical instruments such as drums, flutes, and clappers, imbuing the sacred with the rhythms of everyday life.
